"Ocean Spirits" is a Memorial Painting dedicated to all lives lost at sea
There is a rose each for the men and women and a rosebud for the childern who lost their lives at sea
I was motivated to paint "Ocean Spirits" when I witnessed the Swissair Flight III aviation tragety September 2, 1998 when 229 people perished into the Atlantic Ocean just off Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada
" I See the ocean ... I Hear the ocean ... but, it is the Ocean Spirits of the men, women and childern ... that beckons me to truly Feel the Ocean "
- Alberta Martin
So many people have told me how spiritual the ocean is to them. The spiritual connection they feel whenever they are close to the sights and sounds of the ocean is also true for me.
The tragedies on the ocean over the years and the loss of so many lives has deepened the spiritual emotions I feel whenever I am at sea or on the shoreline.
As
an artist I am driven to take what is in my heart and express it
visually on canvas. Creating this painting has given
me spiritual peace and comfort with the ocean again. ....
